2017 Windsor Valiants Girls Basketball All-Star Showcase Recap

The 2017 Windsor Valiants High School Girls Basketball All-Star Showcase was a grand success being hosted December 6th 2017 at St. Clair College SportsPlex. The Valiants with partnership with St. Clair College hosted 3 all-star games and 2 developmental games that showcased the great girls’ basketball in the Windsor and Essex region.

The junior all-stars took centre court and battled to a 34-32 final with the away black uniformed team taking the win in the first game of the night. MVPs from the game were Reighan Dales from St. Anne Saints and Tyra Atherley from the Villanova Wildcats. On the side court saw the Windsor Valiants U15 Developmental team play the junior girls from the L’Essor Aigles. The Valiants took home the victory with superstar point guard Reem Chebli taking home the MVP honours. A strong performance was also given by Olivia Carter and Nefertiti Butler from the Valiants. The MVP for L’Essor was Marie Hébert.

At 6pm the tier 2 senior girls’ all-stars took centre court. Before the game and before both senior games, the Executive Director of the Windsor Valiants Josh Leeman handed out the all-city plaques. The tier 2 game ended with the white uniformed team winning 47-28. MVPs of the game included Noor Bazzi of the Massey Mustangs and Karla Al Najm of the Catholic Central Comets. During halftime of this game there was played a Future All-Star game where the novice teams for both the Windsor Valiants and Tecumseh Saints played. The young athletes had a great time with the Valiants winning the contest. After the game the novice players’ received their future all-star certificates and posed in a picture with 5 time CIS National Champion Head Coach Chantal Vallée of the University of Windsor Lancers Women’s Basketball Program and assistant coach Nambogga Sewali.

The final game saw the tier 1 senior girls compete against one another. The teams were coached by St. Clair Women’s Head Coach Andy Kiss and Vallée. The game ended in a final of 60-34 for the dark uniformed team with Lydia Abraham from the Kennedy Clippers and Jamilah Christian from the Lajeunesse being named game MVPs.

It was a great night of basketball that saw current Windsor Valiants players winning at least 1 MVP honour in all of the games. The night would not have been made possible without our volunteers and sponsors. Thank you to the Ontario Basketball Association for sponsoring our MVP awards and providing apparel to our volunteers. We want to thank the team with St. Clair College Athletics who hosted the event and sponsored our court time. The team at St Clair includes: Ted Beale, Aaron Sanders (PA announcer for the event), Tristan Bouchat and Matthew Sykes. The L’Essor Aigles and their volunteers led by all-star committee organizer Cara Weese who also brought us Brittney Massender who sang two lovely rendition of O’Canada. Canada Basketball who sponsored apparel for the night. Michael Ristovski, Manroop Gill, Jay Mann and Jared Hayes-Williams who helped officiate the night. Thanks to coaches: Vallée and Kiss and Windsor Valiants Juel coaches Milica Kulidzan, Nikki Vidakovic (Head Coach), Krista Lagasse of the Brennan Cardinals and Haley Milkens of the Lajeunesse Royals for coaching the event. Coach Vallée brought University of Windsor Lancer t-shirts for all Tier 1 players as well. Thank you to Primetime Customs and the Trophy Boys for providing event dri-fit shirts and plaques for the night. We would also like to thank the Tecumseh Saints for sponsoring the All-Star plaques and coach David Fuerth for bringing his novice team. It was great to see Snapd Windsor and the Windsor Star at the event helping to cover this event. A special thanks to the Massey Mustangs Basketball program lead by all-star game committee organizer Keith McShan for filming the event, taking pictures and helping officiate the night. The Windsor Valiants and novice coaches Dan Shannon brought a great bunch of novice players to enjoy and compete in the night. The Valiants were pleased to sponsor the all-star t-shirts.

It was a great night of basketball that showcased the great amount of basketball talent Windsor and Essex County has to offer. Great job ladies!
